Our Mission

The Children's Home of Wheeling, Inc. provides a temporary home, treatment and quality of life programming for male youth referred between the ages of 12 and 18 from throughout the state of West Virginia, who have been abused, neglected or have significant behavioral/emotional and social challenges.

Through individual, group and family therapy, self-esteem building activities, enriching experiences and educational support our residents have the opportunity to heal and maximize their potential.

We are committed to providing services to residents, no matter their race, color, age, disability, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or national origin.

  • To meet individual needs through providing a safe, stable and nurturing environment.
  • To provide a continuum of care to address the medical, physical, emotional, educational and social needs of the youth we serve.
  • To provide each youth with an individualized treatment plan to address his needs.
  • To provide the most appropriate services and programs in the least restrictive setting.
  • To help each youth become a positive and productive member of the community.

Our History

The Children's Home of Wheeling, Inc. was founded in 1870 as an orphanage to service the city's youth.

From 1870 until 1989, the organization provided services to males and females in need of residential placement. In 1989, the decision was made to concentrate our services on males.

Today, The Children's Home of Wheeling, Inc. is a licensed behavioral health center that provides a safe haven and residential treatment for West Virginia's adolescent males.
